Student of the Month:
Jackson is such a joy to have in the classroom. He is extremely responsible both in and outside of the classroom. He has exceeded during hybrid learning. Jackson is also very kind and caring towards others.

My STAR student for the Month of October is Macey Jasken. I recognize Macey for being very responsible, caring towards her fellow peers, and always using her Manners. I am so very lucky to have Macey in my classroom.

Little Thunderbird Student Spotlight:
Gunner was chosen as September Student of the Month. His kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Erickson says, “I chose Gunner as Student of the Month because he is a very respectful, kind person in my class. He is always participating in class activities, and trying his best throughout the day to show his Thunderbird PRIDE. Way to go, Gunner!”
Gunner is most proud of himself when he raises his hand in class and is nice to his friends. His favorite part about school is gym because he gets to run fast! He also likes playing magnatiles during play time in his classroom.
Fun fact about Gunner: His favorite animal is the zebra because it has stripes. Gunner likes riding the bus so he can look out the windows!

Attendance at MSHSL activities is reduced due to COVID-19. Events are not open to the public. KRJM radio, Waubun, and Mahnomen schools are partnering to live stream the activities to try and keep the Thunderbird support going! So please see Following Football attendance information for Friday, October 9 - Football vs Warroad. Each Thunderbird football player is allowed 3 invites and each cheerleader is allowed 2 invites that need to be submitted to their coach/advisor by 6:00pm the night before the game. Coaches will get 1 pass each. Employees hired to work at the game such as workers to run the clock, chain gang, announcer, supervision, gate workers, etc will be on the list. ONLY THOSE ON THE INVITE LIST WILL BE ALLOWED IN. No exceptions. Gates open at 3:40pm. JV game will begin at 4:00. Once you are in the complex, we ask that you not leave. Restrooms will be limited. Concessions are not allowed. Those in attendance will be required to practice social distancing and wear a mask. Once again, KRJM 101.5 FM will be providing a Livestream of the game, complete with play by play and providing coverage on the radio also. https://yourliveevent.com/
Clearbrook-Gonvick School District has notified us that they are not allowing spectators for tonight's game. We will keep you up to date as soon as we can as schools make their decisions. Go Thunderbirds!


Little Thunderbird Student Spotlight:
Rylie was chosen as September Student of the Month. Her teacher, Mrs. Jorud says, “Rylie is so great to have in class. She has a contagious smile! Rylie started off the year in distance learning, and switched to hybrid learning midway through September. She is always on top of her homework both in class and online! Rylie is a great example of Thunderbird Pride both inside and outside of the classroom. That's why i nominated her for September student of the month!”
Rylie is proud of herself when she does her school work on time. She also treats her friends nicely when they are playing together. Rylie says her mom tells her she is a good child for helping out at home!
Rylie’s favorite thing about school is reading. She says it is amazing how much you can learn from a book. Her favorite books are Owl Diaries, Magic Treehouse, and A to Z Mysteries.
Fun facts about Rylie: She has long hair and blue eyes. She can also wiggle her ears without touching them!! Rylie was to me a neonatologist when she grows up.
You are an amazing child Rylie! Our school wouldn’t be the same without you!

Sophia was chosen as September Student of the Month. Sophia’s teacher, Mrs. Bendson says, “Sophia is a wonderful girl! She is cheerful and clever and funny and smart and a friend to all. She is helpful and kind and respectful and ambitious. Sophia works hard and overachieves whenever possible. Sophia is deserving of Student of the Month because of her awesome attitude and work ethic! Congratulations, Sophia!”
Sophie is most proud of herself when she works hard at school. She likes looking at books and learning new words. Sophie’s favorite things abouts school are exercising and skipping in gym class and learning the letter ‘A’.
Fun facts about Sophie: She can do a front flip on the trampoline, except her mom won’t let her do them. Sophie collects shiny rocks at home. She also likes playing basketball and watching her brother, Tyson, play!
Sophie, you are a leader in our school. Keep being your wonderful self!!

Mr. Skaaland Student of the month!!
Reed Jirava has been an excellent student! He is always polite, and follows classroom rules. Reed is respectful to teachers and his classmates as is shown by his great, friendly smile. He works hard to do his best, even when things are difficult. He perseveres and never gives up. Reed is responsible, and he always logs in to Google Meet for classes. We are proud to have him in our classroom!

Tristan is a kind and hard working young man and it has been a joy to have him in my class. He is always on task and has shown Mr. Qual what patience and hard work should look like in 4th grade!

Lizzy was chosen as September Student of the Month. Her teacher, Mrs. Bendson says, “Lizzy Thompson is a wonderful girl! She is quiet and gentle but also a class leader. She is sweet and kind and a friend to all. Lizzy always does her best work and works hard to follow school and classroom rules. Elizabeth is deserving of Student of the Month because of her wonderful attitude and work ethic! Congratulations, Lizzy!”
Lizzy is most proud of being chosen student of the month because she is nice and helpful.
Her favorite thing about school is when she gets to pick her class job. Being the lights helper is her favorite because she gets to turn off and on the lights!
Fun fact about Lizzy: Lizzy likes shopping for toys and makeup with her auntie and uncle. She says that putting on makeup is her favorite thing to do at home!

Little Thunderbird Student Spotlight:
Zaelyn was chosen as September Student of the Month. Mrs. Bement, Zaelyn’s teacher says, “Zaelyn has a positive attitude and always puts forth her best effort in all that she does. She is caring, thoughtful, and respectful of others. She shows her Ogema PRIDE at all times and is an excellent example to others.”
Zaelyn is most proud of herself because she is the neighborhood pet babysitter. She takes care of the pets around her neighborhood. Her favorite pet is a cat.
Zaelyn’s favorite part of school is recess because she plays on the monkey bars with her friends.
Fun fact about Zae: She can do the splits and a cartwheel.
We are all so proud of you, Zaelyn! Your smile lights up our school!


The student of the month in Miss Hause’s classroom is Clementine Straw. She has shown PRIDE 15 in many ways in this short period of time. Clementine is someone who will go out of her way to help anyone who needs it, her kind spirit and smile is infectious to those around her. She is very respectful and celebrates all students' accomplishments no matter how small. She is a natural leader and students often look to her for example.

Austin was chosen as September Student of the Month. Austin’s teacher, Mr. Lenzen says, “Austin is a great leader, both in the classroom and throughout the school. He leads by example, showing his classmates and fellow students positive choices. Austin always has a smile on his face (you can tell by his eyes) and an awesome attitude on his mind!”
Austin says he is most proud of himself when he helps his sister with homework, gets all his own homework done, and finishes a good book. His favorite thing about school is recess because he likes to play football and kickball with his friends.
Fun facts about Austin: He can land a front flip on the trampoline. Also, he can throw a football 20 yards (all the way across his yard)!!

Airalyn was chosen as September Student of the Month. Her teacher says, “She is very outgoing and always has a smile on her face! She always tries her hardest and she doesn't give up when she answers a question wrong to me over google meet. She has been getting all her work done and joins almost all of my google meets.”
Airalyn is most proud of herself when she gets her work done. Her favorite thing about school is recess because she gets to go outside and play with her friends. She likes to play “house” with her friends.
One fun fact about Airalyn is she can run really fast. She can also do a front flip and side flip on the trampoline!!

Firearms Safety: If you would like to take firearms safety, contact Franki Paul at 218-849-4057 as soon as possible, as spots are limited. Students must be 12 years old by October 15th. The deadline to sign up is October 16th.

Due to transportation issues, JH Football will have their practices in Mahnomen all days except Monday, October 19. JH Football will be in Waubun on that day.
JH Volleyball will have their practices in Waubun all days except Tuesday, Oct 13. JH Volleyball practice will be in Mahnomen that day.

Varsity Volleyball game added at Nevis on Monday, Oct 12. The bus for Nevis will leave at 2:30 from Waubun. ***To avoid confusion, Nevis originally wanted to play on Saturday, but this morning changed it to Monday.

JH Volleyball game at Ulen TODAY Bus leaves Waubun at 3:45. Again, no fans allowed and come dressed and ready. 8th grade Volleyball team will play first tomorrow at Ulen, followed by the 7th grade.
